Cultivation &
Supply Chain Management
Our BI (Backwards Integration) model was born out of a necessity in our F&B operations during the economic crisis in Sri Lanka. With our massive requirements for operations it was only logical to work with local farmers and develop long lasting win win relationships with them. We started with our main pain points and expanding to be a self sufficient company in future.
Rice
Using local basmathi to help the economy of Sri Lanka and keep the dependency of imports to a minimum it was imperative that we tie up with local farmers and SMEs to cultivate our own rice to our very own specifications, With this in mind we did our initial research in Anamaduwa, a rice growing area in Sri Lanka.

This process led to us starting a business relationship with a local farmer known for his high quality cultivation and sustainable methods. With Susil and his team on board we started the process with 10 acres of paddy. The first yield was produced in December 2022 cementing this venture into a permanent part of the Adana organisation.

Now Adana is exploring exportation of this rice as it is a great and solid product of Sri Lanka. This rice was showcased at Gulf Food 2023.

Prawns
Prawns consists of a big percentage of menu items that are sold at Chinese Dragon and Maqara, as such it was the next logical step in our BI journey. Is was vital that geographically we target areas that are closer to our rice cultivation and Chilaw was identified to fit the bill.

The BI team is now working with the prawn harvesting companies in this area to commence operations. We hope that once we meet the demands of our restaurants, this process will also be developed to export as a logical next step.
